2009-08-24 -- Peace Bridge Announces Winners of the Illumination Photo Contest (BUFFALO, NY/FORT ERIE, ON) – The Buffalo and Fort Erie Public Bridge Authority conducted a photography contest which began on May 13 in conjunction with the new LED light system that was installed on the Peace Bridge. Photographs were to capture the new LED illumination of the Peace Bridge from any publicly accessible location.
Photographs received were reviewed by a Selection Committee which judged each photo on originality, technical excellence, composition, overall impact, and artistic merit. Many of the entries displayed exceptional quality in technique, concept, and artistry which impressed all the judges involved.
The winners of the contest were: Ann Wright, Fort Erie, ON – 1st place; Jeffrey Barnes, Snyder, NY – 2nd place; and Cathy Whitford, Fort Erie, ON – 3rd place. All entries can be viewed on the Peace Bridge website at www.peacebridge.com.
The Buffalo and Fort Erie Public Bridge Authority, a binational bridge authority, has owned and operated the Peace Bridge since 1933. The bridge, which was opened to traffic in 1927, spans the Niagara River between Fort Erie, Ontario, and Buffalo, New York, and is a key international border crossing. The Authority is governed by a 10 member board with an equal number of representatives from Canada and the United States. As an international compact and in accordance with its enabling legislation, the chairmanship alternates annually between Canada and the United States.
